Old Soviet pins picturing the Beriev-30 aircraft. Eric still keeps these pins from the 1969 Paris Airshow. Eric sent me a letter the other day with an attached image showing some pins. He wrote he got those pins in 1969 when he was at the Paris Airshow. And two pictures of them brothers having fun in Paris soon followed.

Eric and his brother at the Paris Airshow. The then brand new Soviet airliner Ilyushin-62 (visible in the background) was among the most interesting features of the event. I could only imagine himself, - a young fellow, perhaps fascinated with aviation already, and here he is, - in the focal point of the world aviation - Paris Airshow! At that time I could only dream or read about it, - in ‘Izvestiya‘ newspaper, for example (in our family we never cared about subscription to ‘Pravda:)

Hi, Don,

Don visited the Tu-154 flight deck not once

It is my pleasure to offer you an invitation to join our Club, and I’m sure the other Club Members too would be delighted to have you as a fellow member, - especially when they know of your ‘great deal of involvement and expertise in handling the air traffic consisted mostly of the Soviet-built aircraft’, and the fact that it is you only who (except the Club’s Chairman :) had an opportunity to ride on a flight deck of the Tu-154 in the year of 2001.

Plans to set up a ‘RA-85123 fun club’.

A precious gift from my friends in Kuban - the RA-85123 casted into a model. Whenever I look at this model, an ‘old idea’ of starting a ‘new topic’ emerges, and nudges me again gently, and it seems at this time I’m going to do something with regard to it. OK, here’s what it is: let’s explore the idea of setting up an on-line fan club of devotees (should say ‘Lonely Hearts’ :) ) to some particular plane, - the Tupolev-154M, reg. # RA-85123.

I proclaim myself as a founder and Chairman, and a ‘Club Member #1′. Who’s next? :)

‘Baptized’ by the Russian Aviation Authorities as ‘RA-85123′ :)
