Typical Day at Domodedovo, Moscow

Long Galery with an array of the departure ‘gates’ the at Domodedovo airport, Moscow Perhaps, some know that the Moscow city’s needs in the commercial air transport are mostly being served by the three large airports: Sheremetyevo (UUEE), Vnukovo (UUWW), and Domodedovo (UUDD). There’s also a smaller one called Bykovo (UUBB), that is also a part of the air transportation system and the whole airspace organization in the vicinity of this metropolitan area. Vertical Separation Minima. Russia vs ICAO

You can see both altimeters: showing altitude in meters, and feet. Seems like it was a second picture in a set  taken during the same “photo session” - it shows the time and the date in the lower right corner (the 13th of whatever month..), - a date registering format in the camera is set in such a way that unfortunately there’s no indication of the month and the year. But at least we’ve got the time: it is 9:32.. Read the rest of this entry »

Tupolev files

Editorial, RA-85123 Fan Club No Comments »

Tu’s Live Instrument panel It will be a pleasure to resume posting “Tupolev Files”, which were gathered into the ‘RA-85123 Fan Club’ category. As long as my recently done search goes, it is known that the Tu-154M registered as ‘RA-85123′ is now working for a third operator in Russia since the time it was rolled out from the ‘Samara Aircraft Manufacturing Plant’ as a ‘brand new old Tupolev’. Oleg Deripaska is invited to join our ‘RA-85123 Fan Club’

Flickr, Editorial, Clash, Reading, People, RA-85123 Fan Club, Kuban&Krasnodar No Comments »

Well, it may seem to sound like a joke.

Oleg Deropaska, a Russian Oligarch, on the ‘Globe and Mail’ However, it is just ‘half-a-joke’ :)

I doubt if Oleg Deripaska reads ‘Globe and Mail’ at all.. Although, it might be that his assistants had prepared some excerpts from Canadian media reporting on an interview he gave them in Moscow a few days ago. (Oh, sure, free media in the West write all kind of stuff on ‘oligarchic capitalism in Russia’ generally, and Oleg Deripaska - particularly :)

But it is an utterly obscure probability that this post will get ‘on his radar’ any time soon. Anyway, if this thing is going to ever happen, I’d like to invite him to be an honored member of our ‘RA-85123 Fan Club‘.

And there’s something that makes me think this invitation is ‘no-nonsense’.

First Soviet Jet Transport Tu-104

It is just a short remark on a request I got the other day. A gentleman from Brasilia (! - in a comment to this post) asked me if I had images of the Tu-104 ‘in Aeroflot´s early livery’.

Tu-104 on the ramp. Here’s what I’ve been able to find in my own resources:

Tu-104s and Il-18s on the ramp at Tolmachevo, the main airport for the Novosibirsk city.

As I wrote before, my second cousin Yuri used to fly this type for a few years after he accomplished a short term contract in Soviet Air Force flying the Tu-104’s military prototype Tu-16 ‘Badger. Guess, transition training was no problem :)

I also scanned two old photographs..

Tu-104 had just arrived to Vnukovo airport, Moscow, ca. late 50s - early 60s.

..and by a pure chance found something interesting with regard to the above photo.

How much for an Exclusive Airplane Scale Model?

Editorial, Freedom of Choice, Clash, RA-85123 Fan Club No Comments »

(continued from here)

“Yeah, - how much for this?” Wouldn’t that be nice if they determined the model price simply by its weight? :) Although the rule of thumb ‘The more solid material, the more expensive the model‘ also affects price equation, the main price factors lay on different grounds.

Aeroflot Flight to Istanbul-II. Atatürk.

(Continued from HERE)

Boeing-737-800 of Turkish Airlines. One year later I would be attending a training class in Calagary to fly the same type.. but at the moment nobody in the world would have dared to tell me this for sure :) It will take you approximately 2 hour 15-25 minutes before you reach Istanbul, Ataturk International (LTBA) from Moscow, Sheremetyevo (UUEE) on Tu-154. Of course, it depends on factors that are well known from navigation by air, such as true airspeed, wind, time on the approach, etc.

Aeroflot Flight to Istanbul-I. Departure from UUEE.

In the previous post I mentioned an exiting period of time when we were preparing to ‘Big Move‘, and how I bought a digital camera to record some moments of ongoing life, the life that we were about to ‘trade off’ soon for something new and exciting, but - challenging and uncertain.

It was a grey morning in Moscow on February 27, 2004 Sure thing, my camera was with me when I was going to fly, - as, for example, on this day of February 27, when I was scheduled for a regular fight from Moscow to Istanbul, Turkey.

A model of our ‘Model Plane’

Blogroll, Editorial, RA-85123 Fan Club 4 Comments »

Sure thing, when it comes to ‘club member obligations’, no matter what kind of club one cares about, - as a true ‘aficionado’ he or she would normally keep a collection of items reflecting their respective devotion to the ‘idol’ :) - either a poster, or a piece of cloth - if you lucky enough to get one. Anything in fact would do, and ‘the sky is only the limit’ for your imagination in that case .

RA-85123 has just come to Krasnodar, ferried from the aircraft manufacturing plant in Samara. An airstair vehicle is pulling over to the plane. Welcome to Kuban! RA-85123 casted into a model. A gift from my friends in Kuban.

Speaking of the airplane lovers’ fetishes, the most appropriate kind of item would be a good scale model. Let’s talk then about providing our ‘RA-85123 Fan Club‘ members with a decent ‘figurine of Herself’, the Tu-154, registered as RA-85123.
