So, Halloween had come on Russian soil. And we learned more about it though.. school, one of the first privately owned and run outfits of this kind in Krasnodar, Russia. The school had an unusually simple name: ‘Julia‘, or ‘Private School ‘Julia’.

During those ‘incredible 90s’ in Russia when ‘Perestroika‘, - a tremendous shift of epic proportion from ‘Communism to Capitalism just overnight’ was on full throttle, Russians were introduced to many things either unknown to them before, or it was the stuff they might have just heard very little at the best.

Having passed a boarding for a Horizon Air flight #2536 uneventfully, we were on our way back to Calgary after 5-day trip to Seattle and a few places around.

Our Russian friends are leaving Calgary tomorrow.
We are so happy they liked this part of Alberta, - sure, how wouldn’t they? - and also, it seemed they wanted to learn more about both - the province and the whole country. Obviously, being overwhelmed with information, they’ve sort of ‘put themselves at risk of being ’swept away with an avalanche of all kind of new stuff’

In a previous post I mentioned a period of time when we were preparing to the ‘Big Move‘, and how I bought a digital camera to record some moments of ongoing life in that hectic period, the life that we were about to ‘trade off’ soon for something new and exciting, but - challenging and uncertain.
Sure thing, my camera was with me when I was going to fly, - as, for example, on the day of February 27, when I was scheduled for a regular fight from Moscow to Istanbul, Turkey.

These posts are based on photos taken in 2004 when we still lived in Moscow, and I was a Tu-154 captain with Aeroflot Russian Airlines. They cover an exciting period in February and March of 2004, when our big move across Atlantic to the New World was just weeks ahead. Definitely, the whole thing was on a final stage of preparation, and our spirits were already bracing to ‘dizzying leap into unknown’. Read the rest of this entry »

Congrats to the whole Human Race!
On October the 4th, 50 years ago, Soviets launched Sputnik. Wonder, whose idea was to put the Sputnik image into the Google’s logo? Probably, Sergey’s, who was born in Moscow, and whose family immigrated to the US from the Soviet Union in 1979.
Could the Google’s launch into the Internet Universe be compared to the historic Sputnik launch? I guess so. And it is only THE BEGINNING.

Hello, my dear ‘RA-85123 Fan Club’ members,
It is a pleasure for me to inform you that we’ve just got a new image from Russia showing our ‘idol plane’ RA-85123.
It was spotted at Adler, - an airport servicing the Black Sea resort of Sochi - the would-be host town for the Winter Olympics-2014, by the way. And it was a job by Denis, a sure candidate for our club. Denis flies 737 for the second largest Russian carrier S7. He too flew Tu-154 before switching to Boeing. Read the rest of this entry »

What do you think you see on this picture? - Mountains, of course. Sorry, color-wise this image wasn’t perfect, and I converted it into B&W. You might think ‘Hey, he’s got tons of Rockies’ images, what the reason he’s trying to sell this one?’
OK, here’s another couple: of mountains…

..and a wheat farm field .

‘Well, if this is all about REGIONS, so - it’s Alberta, isn’t it, but, - why?’, you may shrug it off.

I don’t think the name of this Canadian company was widely known in Russia until the middle-late 90s, when one of the company’s products made a roaring entry into the country, and ever since then it was becoming more and more popular, - for all the power, speed, and lots of fun riders had with it. And the name was ‘catchy’ too - it sounded great in Russian that can easily deal with ‘rolling R-R-Rs’
