Canadian Bush plane. Russian Engine.

Vedeneyev M-14P radial engine Radial engine is back to Canadian bush. Noteworthy that it is a Russian engine now. Well, generally speaking, radial engine hasn’t been written off yet completely as a choice of power plant for specifically bush aircraft.  But it presumably means those choices were made many, many years ago, when that design for internal combustion engines was ‘in fashion’. Or, in favour among the ‘then’ engine manufacturers. Read the rest of this entry »

Po-2 ’s original propeller Yes, a communication with Samara has been established! I wrote in a previous post how guys from the Russian city of Samara (located in the Volga river region) teamed up to build a replica of the famous Polikarpov-2 biplane. Read the rest of this entry »

Secret Aerial Photography

Departure from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Nah, ‘Aerial Photography‘, - sounds a little bit too pretentious when you see those hazy images taken at some occasions of flying in middle-late 90s. Like this one that I took on the departure out of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in April of 1996. Read the rest of this entry »

Photography

This photograph is almost 20 years old already! Yeah, my penchant for photography is quite an old one, true. Goes back as far as when I was after the Grade 5.. However, I’m not a ‘photographer’, by all means. It still is a hobby. Some say, “it looks already as an obsession!” Don’t know, I just like it, and that’s it. Blogging and digital photography are getting along very well. Wonder, what their lines are on blogging?! :) Read the rest of this entry »

My Best Chum My best chum Sasha (’Shurik’) from our years at the Aktyubinsk Flight College has just turned 50. ‘Big Date’ caught him yesterday. Doesn’t look 50 on this pic though! Oh, in my opinion, he still looks on 25 at his 50 :) Haven’t seen him since the time of our graduation in 1983. Read the rest of this entry »

Americans in BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan

Big Clash, Freedom of Choice, Times&Spaces, From the Road, Clash 4 Comments »

KC-135s on the ramp of Manas, the Bishkek’s international Airport. It was my first ever sighting of so many American military aircraft flocked together at one spot.  Although they looked quiet, it was obvious that they hadn’t been like that over most of the time, and their presence here were ‘on purpose’.  ‘Here‘ was at Manas, the Kyrgyzstan capital’s (Bishkek) airport.  Read the rest of this entry »

Siberia. Bush. Oil. Helicopters

Mil-26 over the Siberian tundra If they asked me to find a proper image to convey the most essential  idea of the ‘Bush Flying - Siberian Style“, I would undoubtedly choose this picture (by Misha). Because ‘a flying helicopter’ is a very common sight everywhere in Siberia, - “the bigger machine, the better”. They do everything, and it looks as if they’ve been there forever. Siberia - it is the ‘Mil-country’.

‘Ab-initio’ Flight College Programs

De-mythology, Getting Wings, Freedom of Choice, Clash No Comments »

Me and my chum Shurik. And the Yak-40 in the background. A recent dialog with a guy from England prompted me to look in to my archive (not really large one, don’t you think it is a ‘coffer of treasure :) ), and retrieve from there a few old photographs dated early 80s, when I attended and graduated a flight college in Aktyubinsk, Kazakhstan.

Networking reached Semipalatinsk

Editorial, De-mythology, Family, Big Clash, Freedom of Choice, Times&Spaces 4 Comments »

A week ago I opened an account at the Russian language social networking web-site called ‘Moj Mir’, - which can almost literally be translated as ‘My Space’.

‘My Space’ in Russian There’s no way to be prepared beforehand for all kinds of surprises that may ‘unleash’ upon you once you’ve stepped in this area of virtual universe.

So was my experience with it.

How much for an Exclusive Airplane Scale Model?

Editorial, Freedom of Choice, Clash, RA-85123 Fan Club No Comments »

(continued from here)

“Yeah, - how much for this?” Wouldn’t that be nice if they determined the model price simply by its weight? :) Although the rule of thumb ‘The more solid material, the more expensive the model‘ also affects price equation, the main price factors lay on different grounds.
