Striped rudder on a second Yak-1 fighter prototype Surprisingly, but one ‘loose guess’ expressed by myself with regard to some painting job features on some vintage aircraft seen at Oshkosh ensued an interesting discussion which you can see in a string of replics under this picture on Clashmaker’s Flickr photostream. Human Factors - Process Analysis

Editorial, Clash, Process Analysis No Comments »

Effects observed during an event of ‘Factors’ Convergence’ - Nakladka How much trace of Logic is present in an extremely rare and random event? Such as a ‘human factor-caused’ accident, for example? Can we ultimately come up with a solution to effectively guard against them with predictable results? Read the rest of this entry »

Snooker under Lenin’s watch

Time pass playing the Billiard Oh, well, to be honest, it was not specifically a SNOOKER game that we played back then, during my years in the flight college. As far as I remember, we had fun with some ‘amateurish’ version of BILLIARD. Stakes weren’t too high. Actually, I couldn’t recall if we ever put the money on stake. Maybe, some did. On the quiet. ‘Cause, ‘you never know’.. Lenin was always.. kinda watching us :) Read the rest of this entry »

Sputnik. First Man Made Object in Space

Break thru If somebody told me many ears ago, that so much stuff associated with the Soviet Union’s achievement in aviation and space could be found in America..  Probably, I wouldn’t have taken it seriously.

Here we go: a very authentic replica of the first artificial object ever launched into outer space has been seen hanging out from a ceiling in the Boeing’s ‘Museum of Flight‘ at Seattle.

‘Yakovlev-40′, and ‘-42′. Two ‘bros’ in Perspective.

Excellent demonstration of ‘Perspective’ A neat picture of these two - ‘the Yakovlevs brothers’. Isn’t it cool to see such a clear illustration of ‘Perspective‘? :) On a 2-D pic planes project into images of the same size. A friend of mine who flies out of Domodedovo took this shot. ‘Polar Aviators’ on TV

Editorial, De-mythology, Clash, Antarctica: Greg's Files No Comments »

Red Tail Russian TV channel ‘NTV’ runs an interesting project called ‘Aviators. We watch this show at home via the Internet TV provider. I put here a few frames from footage of a recent episode about Russian/Soviet aviation in Antarctica. As you’ve been able to see for the date, I’m pursuing this theme in a category ‘Antarctica: Greg’s Files‘. Read the rest of this entry »

Flight Instruments-II

‘Russian’ artificial horizon. AGD-1 Follow-up to a previous post:  just found a source where they give a reference pointing at some ‘differences’ in ‘Russian’ and ‘Western’ design of attitude indicators (artificial horizons).

The background display is coloured as in a Western instrument, but moves up and down only to indicate pitch. A symbol representing the aircraft (which is fixed in a Western instrument) rolls left or right to indicate roll angle“.

The quest is going on..

Artificial Horizon AGB-3K, “Made in the USSR”Evolutionary Aspects of Flight Instruments Designs‘ - how’s that sound? For example, - as a name of a subject matter in a course of aeronautical engineering. In my opinion, it may be quite an educative subject. Read the rest of this entry »

Western Built Aircraft in Russia

Blogroll, Editorial, Clash 9 Comments »

Yamal Airlines’ 737-500 A while ago I touched a topic of Western built transport category aircraft deployed in Russia. Specifically, with regard to Boeing. Numbers of planes made by Airbus, I believe, is pretty close to those representing Boeing in the totals for the entire Russian operators’ fleet. I’ll try to find some statistics on both.
