It was a real delight to receive this news. A friend of mine from Russian city of Samara dropped a line a couple days ago tipping me to check out their web-site where they posted a bunch of photographs showing a progress of one long-run project.
A subject in concern was Polikarpov-2, a ‘Tiger Moth (or ‘Jenny’ JN-4, for this sake.. uh, about ten years younger, though) of the Soviet sky’, well known also for its unique role of being quite an effective and - deadly, in fact - ‘weapon of nuisance’ when they flew night rides across the front line to pester nazies with small bombs and hand grenades during the World War II.
I mentioned this work in one of my posts a while ago, just around the time the guys in Samara belonging to a club of aeronautical enthusiasts named ‘Gorynych’ (funny, it may be translated as ‘Dragon’) were beginning the Po-2 project. And it flies already!
I’ll ask Valentin (a friend who sent all this stuff to me) to keep us posted. Interesting, whether they ran a project’s formal hourly log.. Seems like they have had enough hands and expertise to accomplish the project in quite reasonable time. Good for them.
I hope we’ll get some video of the Po-2 flying soon.
