Have just begun another interesting communication with a pilot, who used to fly MiGs, and now - the Antonov-2s in African desert, hauling loads of tourists on so-called ‘aero-safaris’.
We have established a well running exchange by now, and I’ll be soon posting more stuff on this unique An-2 operation. As far as I know, a fairly large number of An-2s had reached the African soil some time ago, most of them, I believe, in the early 90, - to make up fleets of many colorful outfits engaged in various types of flying, including an array of ‘bush adventures’.
A legendary Soviet plane that at the time was designed and built with a great deal of consideration to an aircraft’s potential for ‘flying in bush’, - is seen here, on this picture, parked for an overnight in the ‘100 per cent authentic bush!’ It’s funny, though, lots of pilots originating from the former Soviet Union republics don’t even have a clue, what a specific meaning the term ‘bush’ has with regard to flying
It doesn’t hinder though their ability to ‘master an art’
In this case they will probably get even more amused when they learn that the term itself was originally used to describe flying by first aviators over the ‘bush’, a Southern Africa’s savanna.
Well, if the Hollywood is to come up with plans for a new episode to further the ‘Indiana Johns’ saga, this time - in Africa, the An-2 my new friend Victor flies would certainly do as an ‘airborne adventure platform’
Expect an update soon.
