CHRISTMAS THOUGHTS

Dawn of the new day Planning for the future.. It may set up a day for some pretty good start. For that, I’m flying another Christmas pairing. That’s OK, don’t rush to express your fellow feelings, please :) I don’t mind working on Christmas at all. Could be simply explained. Fact is, I grew in another culture.

It is not so that that culture left me inept, ’spiritually unfit’ to grasp the meaning of Christmas. It just occurred to me at one point, “so, what? The world won’t come up to the end if I just give up in that competing for a chance to be at home during Christmas”. Moreover, no need to even pretend ‘being a person ready to sacrifice’ :) - how it turned, within our system we’ve got a bid option that seems to perfectly suit me. We can make a trade-off: you volunteer working at Christmas, and get the New Year Eve off. However, it really warms me that there may be an extra chance for a co-worker out there, who needs it more, and to who it matters much more. And at the end of the day we may get one totally happy, and another one completely satisfied person. Isn’t that great? Ho-Ho-Ho! :)

Santa flies direct from the North Pole

As it may really matter for people a lot, I got a firsthand experience recently when I met a young girl, a flight attendant, on a parking lot, - who I first watched exerting some observable effort as she hauled a big duffel bag behind herself, and it wasn’t to hard to guess, - with what kind of stuff in it. Then we exchanged, and I learned she hurried to our company’s shuttle go to the airport where she was anxious to catch a flight to her native Regina. Apparently, to see her family and friends. Asked ‘what she would be doing at Christmas’, she instantly changed her facial expression, - almost winced - and said in a down voice that ’she would be busy working’. I was stricken by realization how sincerely rueful she looked, and I couldn’t help but blurt out a silly “Oh, poor girl!”

Yeah, too sensitive a subject to continue.. I can surely bet that there might be some people existing in universe, who would begin feeling ‘pity’ for me, as they get ‘my stance of not caring too much about what I do at Christmas’ :)

Anyway, let’s change the mood to somewhat more cheerful. It is the Boxing Day, I’m sitting in the room, situated at the ‘Fairmont’ hotel, Winnipeg, (three night in the row here, already) - and thinking of future expected for a tiny world of ‘Clash’. Which, of course, is not just an imaginative one, belonging to a mind and humble personality of myself, the ‘truly yours’ :) - but that expands across and beyond, and reaches to many sensitive areas where the most of cross-cultural interaction in the real, ‘big world’ takes place.

I promise you, I’ll keep my work ‘carving out a niche’ in that sketchy charted world. I am, ‘Russki, a naturalized Canadian’, fascinated with exploring our multicultural universe..

And you know, - what matters most from what I learned after years of going down that road:

“BE YOURSELF, AND NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY”

HOPEFULLY, YOU’VE HAD THE BEST CHRISTMAS EVER! :)
