A good news came from Russia. I’m in a search for more information now, but it seems they’ve brought one old aircraft restoration project to final stages of completeness. Quite an accomplishment, especially when you bear in mind the fact the General Aviation legislation environment existing in Russia is far from being ‘cozy’ and friendly toward the groups of aeronautical enthusiasts emerged there since the Soviet Union collapse.
My pleasure to know about a success of this project was doubled as I learned that it came from a friend of mine, a fellow-photographer from Russia, who has just set up a Flickr account, and started posting great pictures from his spotting session at some Moscow airports. I’d be glad to introduce him to our ‘loose formation’ of pilots and photography fans, ’shooters’ into the North American sky
Another stimulus to know more about the Ilyushin-14 restoration project came from my long-going pursuit of ‘Antarctica theme’. Last post in the category was also mentioning the plane, a truly recognized ‘work horse’ of Polar flying’.
My friend reports the plane been got airborne, and ferried to the Astafyevo airport on July, 24, 2007. The final readying works to get the plane in the air was done at Sheremetyevo. Here you can see more pictures of the Il-14, interior and exterior, from Sasha’s photo-stream.
I’ll be looking forward to hearing more about his deal. Also, Greg (who’s name was used to name the category
) has confirmed he would write a post for us based on photographs from his fascinating collection. It’s gotta be interesting!
Welcome to us, if you don’t mind to ‘clash’ a bit, at any time ![]()
