Waco in sepia colors.. DoB - ’some day’, 1931. Here she is - a proper candidate for our contest ‘FIRST REGISTERED ONE HUNDRED YEAR OLD FLYING PLANE’. Although she qualifies, she’s a bit too young yet, - all the data available on the Internet shows this ‘Waco’ Model QCF-2, registered in the USA as ‘NC 1142′ was ‘born’ in 1931. So, she is just 77 year old ‘babe’.

Still a ‘way to go’ :)

Following THIS LINK you can find some information about this plane’s restoration. Wonder if those guys in the ‘Rare Aircraft Ltd’ (to which site the link goes) have any grasp of the ‘100-year-old plane competition idea’.. And if so, they are, surely, a bunch of experts  with a knowledge of much greater pool of candidates :)

Waco, NC 11424 Handsome forms, apparent vintage look, and meticulous craftsmanship were making this plane so conspicuous, that anybody walking by couldn’t help but stop to enjoy seeing its shining  beauty.

Morning grooming Work of love

I spent, perhaps, good 30 minutes walking around Waco, marveling at its fineness.

One more photographer, attracted by the plane’s awesome look Among other watcher there were a few enthusiast of photography who stopped by, and did the same thing as myself..

In looking for a best angle.. “That’s it! Got it!”

This girl was so enchanted by the shining beauty of Waco, that during her ‘low-angle photo-session’ around it she appeared to be totally oblivious to what was going on around :)

Every detail demonstrated how superbly this Waco restoration project was carried off.

View from the tail Cockpit

Horizontal stabilizer Light on the tail

I marveled for a couple of minutes at the aeroplane’s control surfaces

Aileron Fine detail of construction. Note the smoothness of rivet job.

Wonder how many man-hours of dedicated work it requires a week to keep polish on this aileron as shiny? :)

Very stylish shoes.. ‘Shoes’ the plane wore were very ‘classy’, and reflecting ‘tastes’ of its designers who apparently kept up with the epoch’s trends :)

I took pictures of a couple of tags seen on the plane.

A serial number plate A manufacturer serial number plate dated ‘1931′ looked nevertheless as if it was printed yesterday :)

Manufacturer’s logo

Manufacturer’s logo on both sides of the rear cockpit looked handsome too.

Actually, here were two Wacos sitting beside

Two ‘Wacos: ‘NC 11424′ has a sibling - ‘NC 11457′ I though of them though as of totally identical aircraft. However, you can read an info on the NC 11457 going to the site of aforementioned ‘Rare Aircraft Ltd’.

Here’s a picture of the NC 11457’s left board

Left side of the ‘NC 11457′ Waco biplane Only after I had a more thorough look while working on this post, I had noticed some slight differences in color schemes on both :)

So, the more - the better: we’ve got two of them now - candidates for our contest
