If somebody told me many ears ago, that so much stuff associated with the Soviet Union’s achievement in aviation and space could be found in America.. Probably, I wouldn’t have taken it seriously.
Here we go: a very authentic replica of the first artificial object ever launched into outer space has been seen hanging out from a ceiling in the Boeing’s ‘Museum of Flight‘ at Seattle.
What else more than Sputnik could serve as an iconic example of the Soviets’ achievements?!
The fact the Soviet Union launched an Earth planet satellite on this day, 51 year ago (October, 4, 1957), caused a tremendous shake-up within a society in the North America. I even read that the ripples expanded from this stir eventually took an effect on an ‘Avro’s Arrow‘ interceptor fighter program in Canada, to some degree.
In my strong belief though, people in the world are more and more inclined to get over that politically biased perception of this event as an ‘achievement exclusively by the Soviets, and the only objective they aimed at while working on it, was to plant a great punch onto the yanks’ nose’
It is an achievement by the whole Human Race in the first place. ‘Sputnik’ in Russian means ‘Sojourner’, a good companion party in a long travel.
A cheerful ‘Beep-Beep‘ springing out of these whiskers had awaken it to the New Era.
Have a great ‘Sputnik Day’!
