Radial Engine on Bush Planes

Radial engine demonstrator Radials are alive, and no doubt, - they will be.

I took this picture last summer at Red Lake, during their unique ‘Norseman Festival’. Town’s main street was closed for traffic, so the festival got some room for placing booths and kiosks of commercial participants.

One firm, a provider of engine maintenance services, had this mobile stand with a radial engine demonstrator (I’ll find a name of the firm, it is somewhere in my papers). I approached the stand, and, apparently, showed a great deal of interest toward the intricate machinery inside the demonstrator :) A gentleman, one of the firm, came over and asked me ‘if I had any questions’. Well, I simply asked him: “How does it work?” :)

I’ll return to the Red Lake ‘Norseman Festival’ theme in some future posts. Still owe you a good video of a ride that we took! OK, here’s a short video of our ride plane coming to the water airport marina

Listen to the radial engine, - doesn’t tell you much how ‘it works exactly’, but you can start to speculate.. Wonder, why’s that ‘clucking’ sound - after, as I suppose, the fuel was cut off, the magnetos - OFF too, and the engine was spinning a few last turns on inertia?..
