You can’t see them too often at St. John’s, Newfoundland. Oh, well, in fact, these, and other of their kind fly over the Newfoundland by dozens per any given day - across Atlantic, in both directions, but these big ones never stop at YYT (’Torbey’) routinely.
There should be something ‘out of ordinary’ happening if a scheduled flight interrupts the trans-Atlantic journey for such a stop.
I don’t know exactly what happened to this Virgin Atlantic ‘Flight 26′, but it sat for while on a service ramp, away from the terminal’s apron.
Then I heard on the radio pilots asking for clearance to London, Heathrow. Soon after the Airbus-340 taxied behind us. I had a chance for a ‘direct shot’
..and one more:
Observing this noble craft taxiing by, we had a quick chat on the topic of our perspective ‘future alliances and partnerships’
In a few more minutes ‘Virgin’ took off from the RW 29
“Have an uneventful flight!”, I sent them my wish.
We had not a really long stop at St. John this time. Nice weather, a bit windy, but it was warm, and ’somewhat dry’ wind, as if it just came from some place like Mojave.. I woke up at 10:10 local time.. luckily, I’ve got that feature on my cell that automatically switches to the local time. You know, - “you are on the Rock”
Came out for breakfast, hurriedly got a few shots of George Street,
- a place of never ending festivity - “Movable Feast” of some sort
as it is on August 23, 2008..
.. spotted a helicopter..
.. and went back to the hotel to get dressed for work.
That’s it.
