Another aerial picture if Toontown On the road again. It is one of the relatively rare five-day pairings, and not too many folks in our system like them. I’m not an exclusion. But it’s OK, work is work, and still - as I do my bid for the next month I never advise system I would prefer avoiding these pairings.

And a first stop is at Saskatoon again.

Seems like the mood is ‘to take it easy’. So, I won’t go anywhere, and will use pictures from a previous overnight here.

Saskatoon Downtown Area But the aerial shots, however, were taken today: ‘Saskatoon from the bird’s eye view, as of November 3rd, 2007′. (What kind of bird might have a chance to see the city like that? - oh, sure, - the Canadian Goose :) It is just a ‘half-joke’: in this area during birds migrating season flocks of gees fly in the space around at a worrisome proximity. Wonder, if they aslo enjoy the view..

South Saskatchewan River’s waters flow through Saskatoon Or, maybe, they are more attracted by a sight of this river, and don’t pay much attention to the ’single, big, noisy birds’ challenging them at times on the ‘right of way’.

OK, when I was here the last time, I got to downtown area (walked down all the way from airport), and explored the city at a closer look.

Another aerial picture if Toontown On the waterfront I did a stretch between two bridges that are nicely shown here. On the right is the Broadway Bridge, and the University Bridge is respectively on the left side of the picture. Here’s a link to Google’s satellite map.

A plaque showing significant facts of this bridge’s history Curious, as always I am :) , I came over to the bridge to have a closer look at a plaque on its wall.

Look around:

Horseman statue is of Gabriel Dumont, ‘Metis General’. Among other deeds done, he established a ferry across the South Saskatchewan River in 1872 Nice park on the South Saskatchewan River bank

..and under the bridge

Under the Broadway Bridge. It was obvious that the place is being visited by people attracted to it as to a sort ‘hangout’ :) Well, it seems ‘under-the-bridge space‘ is always attracting people, - no matter what century you are in, and with no specific regard either this in Paris, or London, or Saskatoon :)

Broadway Bridge across the South Saskatchewan River In fact, the whole waterfront area is a seamless stretch of very nice parks: Friendship Park on one side of the bridge, and the Kiwanis Memorial Park - on the another.

‘Typical Park’ in ‘Paris’ What in Paris (France) would be looking alike? Anyway, there’s something in it.. (Delta Bessborough Hotel)

Whirlpool University Bridge

Brush on the bank. Looking toward the University Bridge ‘Palace of Versailles’ in ‘Paris of the Prairies’

Interestingly enough, next day I browsed a local newspaper, the StarPhoenix,
‘StarPhoenix’ - a local newspaper in Saskatoon and in one of the articles I came across another town’s nickname: ‘the City of Bridges‘. Fair enough, they are definitely the city’s conspicuous features. Like in Paris :)

Another excellent set of photos. Your view from the air reminds me so much of what Calgary looked like when I first saw it about 50 years ago - compact and with a sharp transition from city to prairie.

Saskatoon looks like a great place to live. Sadly I have not spent any time there over the years.

    Hello,

    Interesting remark.
It is interesting also because living here we can see now how ‘young’ Canada is! :) And She’s growing too.

As for Saskatoon, it is said to be the next ‘boom-town’ pretty soon. For good, or for bad, believe it or not :)

“Sharp transition from city to prairie” - exactly! I even noticed that recently - just abrupt ‘edge’ where all development has reached to. I’ll try to make more sharp pictures showing this.
