Haloween Fantasy - ‘Kuban Style’ During those ‘incredible 90s’ in Russia when ‘Perestroika‘, - a tremendous shift of epic proportion from ‘Communism to Capitalism just overnight’ was on full throttle, Russians were introduced to many things either unknown to them before, or it was the stuff they might have just heard very little at the best.

So was the Halloween, a holiday widely celebrated in the West.

In the Soviet Union time, I believe, it was known only to the people who for some specific reason might be more familiar with the Western culture than an average person. ‘Mases’ virtually didn’t have any knowledge about it, nor they cared.

Among tremendous amount of things that were of pure novice to the population, there was unheard degree of freedom to set up privately owned businesses and any kind of enterprises to do whatever the emerging ‘marked economy’ would deem necessary to satisfy various kind of needs.

So the privately owned schools began establishing in the large cities, - like Moscow, first, - and then the trend was picked up, and continued to spread further out to regions.

Eventually it had reached Krasnodar, a nice city in the Southern Russia where we lived at that time. So, we decided to ‘give it a shot’ and put our children into one of the first privately run schools in the town. It seemed the kids didn’t mind it too :)
