‘Second Largest Aircraft Manufacturer’ in Washington

Of course, it was a joke, but who knows.. Should check statistics.
Thanks to Alan Negrin (a remark about Glasair Aviation as ‘being a second largest aircraft manufacturer in the state of Washington’ was his
) we had a chance to tour the factory.
Alan, who is in charge of new kit sales at the company, treated us exactly the way we should be treated: as potential customers. Sure, ‘not quite’ a type of customers ‘ready to buy immediately’, but, - to some degree - as ‘potential customers’. And I appreciate it a lot.
An object of our interest was ‘Sportsman 2+2′, a nicely looking ‘plane for pleasure’ manufactured here as a kit.
There’s another association with Boeing, with its latest model, - the 787 specifically, - Sportsman is made of composites.
However, the wing is all traditional aluminum
and a cage made of steel tubing is built into the ‘composite shell’ to give structure more strength and therefore increase safety in case of emergency landing in bush.
(to be continued..)

Oh, yes, the General Aviation world is in fact no less than ‘Another Aviation Universe’.
You should go and see Oshkosh, the number of planes coming to Oshkosh is staggering - over 10.000, at one place (though, the one big enough to accommodate them all), in a short period of time. It is very representative show.

Have good look at it out off all angels. Are they still building kits or are they out out of bussines?
If you are in Toronto their is one being built next door to Aircraft Spruce 1760 Meyersidee road Missisauga just behind the airport.
Talk to the builder he is there sometime.
