Yak-11 in Discovery Bay, WA
Blogroll, Editorial, Yakovlev. The name&the planes, From the Road Add commentsYes, we ‘tracked them down’
(that’s how one of the Bill Shepherd’s friends worded it when we met in a hangar), and here we are, in a small community of aviation enthusiasts at Diamond Point Air Park, WA.
I first saw the plane at Oshkosh
and since then I wanted to know more about it, and it’s owner.
I would like to thank Bill for almost two hours he spent with us telling interesting stuff about the plane, which I was watching as if it suddenly materialized from my childhood dreams, and had appeared quite real, in metal and fabric, with Red Stars painted on fuselage and the wings.
See more on this in one of the future reports.

Looks like a very successful trip, I even have a photo of this airport: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/121/267560575_c5612aa170_o.jpg

Hey, Tristan,
Right on!
Did you take that picture flying over this place in one of your trips down South?
Isn’t that nice people live in such a dedicated community?

I took this photo on one of my many trips to Boeing Field.
Very sadly there was a fatal accident at Diamond Point airport yesterday involving a Grumman Tiger

Oh..
I didn’t hear that. Too bad.
I’ll communicate with Bill, ask him some details.
He said in this period at times it is a bit hard to get to this airport because of weather. He is going to go for another airshow in Nevada this November, so he expressed some concerns on that point.

Sounds like he’s going to Aviation Nation…I’ll look for him when I’m there

Sure, Tristan,
Have a chat with the gentleman, he’s a retired Delta captain. A few year ago he got this Yak, and now, he says, ‘it is a full time job again’
