Boeing Everett Tour

Boeing used to build small biplanes made of wood, steel tubes, and fabric. Splendid. Another ‘great accomplishment was tucked under the belt’ today after we payed a visit to Everett, WA, where the wide body Boeing planes are being produced on the huge factory adjacent to the aerodrome called ‘Paine Field’.

We toured a factory too, and saw Boeing-777 and

Dreamliner is a star at Everett 787 Dreamliner production&assembly lines, but there’s no way to get pictures of your own from the tour - NO electronic devices, cell phones, cameras, etc., are allowed to be on a visitor during the tour.

So, believe me, there were two 787 on the floor, the famous #1 that is known to the whole world as a star of ‘it’s own roll-out ceremony’ that happened just recently, and #2, a way more quiet, but no less important participant of the whole 787 project.

This particular plane #2 is, may I say so, - ‘doomed from the scratch’, - it is slated for a series of dynamic and static tests where they are going to determine the maximum forces that are destroying the airframe, i.e., this ‘toy’ is going to be eventually broken down by ‘curious Boeing engineers’.

It was increible to see this huge ‘barell’, a section of the 787′ fuselage made of ‘anything but metal’.

Victoria leaned on the composite airframe structure in order to clear off any doubt it is ’strong enough’ :)

To be honest, I got really excited as we were yet approaching the place.

Drive under the ‘most expensive private bridge in the state of Washington’: Boeing people move planes across this bridge from assembly to the paining shop only at nights: otherwise traffic disruption on the road would be unpredictable Victoria shot a video (with intermittent still frames) of this departing 777 in Thay colours.

(to be continued..)

    Hi, Eric,

    true, Boeing is SOMETHING!
I flew Yakovlevs and Tupolevs for years in the USSR/Russia, but Boeing was the FIRST aircraft manufacturer I’ve ever seen.

Boeing is great. And I totally accept their motto: ‘If it ain’t Boeing, I’m not going!’ :))
