Caucasus Mountains What do you think you see on this picture? - Mountains, of course. Sorry, color-wise this image wasn’t perfect, and I converted it into B&W. You might think ‘Hey, he’s got tons of Rockies’ images, what the reason he’s trying to sell this one?’

OK, here’s another couple: of mountains…

‘Well, if this is all about REGIONS, so - it’s Alberta, isn’t it, but, - why?’, you may shrug it off.

OK, it is NOT. .

It is in fact

Caucasus Mountains Region

Northern part of it is simply called ‘North Caucasus’, and some territory of the latter is officially known as ‘Krasnodarski Krai’. Krasnodarski Krai is an ‘Administrative Region #23′ - in an official list of regions that make up the whole body of Russian Federation. I decided to create one more blog category that will be specifically dedicated to this region.

There’s a few posts already here regarding Krasnodarski Krai and Krasnodar - the main city of the region. In this one I wrote about ‘Kuban’, - that’s the historic, traditional name of the territory, - and that it has nothing to do with ‘Cuba’ :)

Perhaps, there’s some geological similarities between Alberta and Kuban

For majority of Russians Kuban is pretty much the same what California is to many Americans. Or, if we take Canada, there are reasons why some areas in BC attract so many Canadians.

Kuban has got almost everything. Including a climate with pretty mild winters, - which makes folks living in other parts of Russia a little bit envy. Moreover, Krasnodarski Krai is a land of ‘two seas’, - the Black Sea, and the Azov. And this fact only adds up more to general jealousness :)

Black Sea is a good summer resort. In the Soviet Union time it was the ONLY warm sea resort principally available to the country’s population. Maybe, not quite affordable for most of it. To spend a vacation in a place at the Black Sea was kinda cool thing, especially if you live somewhere near Kamchatka.

Valery was one year old when we took her to the Black Sea for the first time To be honest, I was ‘more close to my 30s than to 20s’ when I visited the Black Sea for the first time. Oh, well.. Our children were more lucky :)

There’s many interesting natural objects at the Black Sea The ‘Sail Rock’ - a point of tourist attraction at the Black Sea

(to be continued..)
