September, the 1st. Calgary International Airport.

I looked into her eyes… I was heading towards Gate 48 in the concourse D to join my crew for the first pairing in this month, and all of a sudden I noticed something that made me stop. It was a view of the plane looming outside on the tarmac, bridged to Gate 43.

Vickers was parked at D-43

To be honest, I saw this plane for the first time in my life. Well, sure I saw it pictured in aviation magazines , but never a real one. It took me an effort to remember the airplane’s make.

Ilyushin-62! - No, I’m jocking :) but they really look alike..

Ilyushin-62, the ‘Flagman’ of the Soviet Civil Aviation in the 60s and 70s.

… and this fact was surely bringing about rounds of speculations on ‘who did what’ in the recent past. I mean, ‘who created an original idea, and who ‘borrowed’ it’ :)

You can easily go ‘google’, and find the data on both.

I’m only to say that Ilyushin was a bit heavier with 370.000 lbs, Vickers weighs 335.000 lbs gross.

A look from the other side.

The plane was being readied for departure, and an information board by the gate showed it would be going to Gander. I believe, Gander was just an intermediate stop for this flight on its way to Europe.
