‘Hey! Look at that!’, I exclaimed in a surprise when we noticed this aircraft at Oshkosh Seaplane Base. A few days ago we saw it having just come from Yellowknife, NWT, to Red Lake, Ontario.
July, 21st, Day 1 of the Norseman Festival in Red Lake. CF-SAN takes it easy at the dock after having just done a long trip from Yellowknife.
Doing stuff for this blog I never acted as a ‘fully blown journalist’, but in this case I wish I would at least have a recorder. The captain narrated an exciting ’saga of their journey’ from Yellowknife to Red Lake. As always, one of the important topics surely mentioned in this particular chat was the ‘availability of refueling stations along the long cross-country route for the floatplane’. (Here is a Great Circle Mapper distances calculation for the Yellowknife-Red Lake-Oshkosh, not for the water aerodromes, though).
Buffalo Airways Ltd. of Yellowknife owns this plane. CF-SAN certified for commercial job, but as the captain said they don’t have much use of this plane in commercial service.
CF-SAN, Norseman Mark V, has almost all credentials and details of its ‘bio’ painted in large print on the fuselage sides.
A quick look inside the plane..
..and ‘zoom out’ to see the whole Norseman line…
..and the sky calling on you for a flight.
The call was so powerful that we went for a ride on Norseman.
I’m still working on a post with photos taken during the ride, and there’s some video too.

All the ride flights were fully booked, but I think the Chimo Air Service was made all possible to provide with them all the guests willing to go.
I hope to finish the Norseman Ride report soon.
See you,
C.
