Oshkosh in one glance (Seaplane - reservations)

(Carried on from THIS..)

Oh, yes, - for myself, as a potential ‘leisure floatplane flier’, a torturous period of ‘daydreaming and seeing myself soaring over the beautiful back country’ began! But a good ‘kick on the head to awaken the lost’ for ‘reality check’ surely wouldn’t harm.

Could be a workshop on floatplane flying basics… ‘Just look into your logbook!’, one may scream, and this one would be right. Thousands hours of multi-engine jet time, and the only experience I had on a single-engine piston powered plane was a time when I flew the Yak-18T in the Aqtobe Civil Aviation Flight College ’some twenty and plus’ years ago.

A quick detour off the topic: I had a warm rendezvous with two Yak-18Ts in Oshkosh:

Oh, we haven’t seen each other for so many years!

It was so lovely to see the familiar forms! Didn’t change much since, eh… 1967 when this plane was first introduced

Not too far from this one I also spotted a Canadian-registered Yak

The only difference was a three-blade propeller. Back then in the SU we didn’t have those

A three-blade propeller spins from the power provided by the radial Vedeneyev M-14P. Two pilot seats and two more seats in the back

There was quite a few Yaks on the Oshkosh AirVenture, staying on the display, flying, and certainly, a special report dedicated to Yaks we’ve seen is ‘warranted’ :)

However, back to seaplanes. Which for me now means ‘back to school’.

Should think about to start on something really BASIC.. Like this nicely looking plane from the Cub Crafters, Inc.,

A beautiful baby from Cub Crafters

Look at that cheerful SMILE!

Company’s location is in Yakima, Washington, (the USA), - not too far, compared to distance we covered on the trip to Oshkosh. Hmm, I’ve never been down South on the West Coast farther than White Rock, BC … Should think about it.

Another ‘baby float plane’ attracted my attention in Oshkosh

Go for it man, when you can go “fly fishing.”

    Hey, Len!

I will! Appreciate your encouraging words.
That’s gonna be my next BIG GOAL (after move from Russia :) - getting a float rating.

Subject to approval by Transport Canada, eh? Ground school, dual training, test, endorsement into your license.. I’m shopping around for a ‘deal’ with regard to ‘lowest cost’ for flying instructions.

Yeah, I feel I got kinda ‘hooked’ :)
    Talk to you.

P.S. I’ll publish a report from the AirVenture Water base, and put a pic of that gentleman from Sweden who made it from Germany to Red Lake and then to Oshkosh on a single engine (turbine) float plane.
