A footnote: ‘Why - seaplane?’)
Editorial, Freedom of Choice, Travel, Times&Spaces, Travels, From the Road, Sea Plane Flying Add commentsYeah, it’s fair enough to ask - why?
Because we live in Canada.
Look at that. This is a typical landscape all across the Canadian Shield area - it is just one incredible compound of rock, water, and wood.
OK, that’s understood, but ‘what’s a deal’, you ask, - ‘is it for a business, or - what?’. Why may one want to have a plane generally, and a seaplane - particularly? Hasn’t he or she had yet enough flying planes at work?
No, those two things are different. But I’m not going to write a ‘fine essay’ on it. Hopefully, somebody will come by to this virtual spot and say a couple of ’spiritually appraising’ things on ‘challenge of flying’, ‘expanding horizons’, etc. And they will be greatly appreciated.
I think the most powerful drive that can be tracked behind your conscious efforts to acquire a ‘pleasure plane’ is one of the ‘primary instincts’, the one that urge us to EXPLORE.
I’m assuming it might be true with respect to personalities of many other people, but for myself it is absolutely true. Too strong calling to resist! We even moved to Canada mostly because there may be ‘a little bit less space here but quite a bit more freedom’ than in our homecountry
And here comes the seaplane as an excellent means to ’speak up your call for freedom’. That’s why we went to this trip, - in our van, though, but it was actually a first step to ’shop around’ for a plane!
OK, ’stop talking’, - I tell myself, - share the beauty of Canada seen in this voyage with people!
Yes, I took tons of pictures during this trip, and all of them will prove and support an idea of ‘gaining a third dimension of your personal freedom’. And what’s more appropriate if it’s not Kenora where you could start reporting from on the romantic of seaplane flying in Canada?
The floatplane base is located right in the center of the city. It’s interesting, I found that Kenora at this part in some sense resembles the waterfront around the Vistoria city’s harbour. ‘Scaled down’ quite a bit, though
You can also explore the country touring it on the boat
Seems the locals use boats as much as cars
This guy, a pilot flying for Kenora Air Service, chatted with us for a few minutes, then excused himself, and went home on a motorboat.
See, here in Kenora they put in boats for a draw, - like they play out trucks during Stampede in Calgary.
We enjoyed Kenora very much, and certainly, would have spent much more time here, but we were heading to Red Lake.
And we wanted to make it to Red Lake rather earlier,- and there was a good reason to do it before sunset
However, the night was upon us sooner, and I had to drive with ‘caution’: this moose was the first one of five we saw that night on the road.
Finally, we got to the place
where we were going to enjoy a unique air show featuring ‘antique’ floatplanes.
To be continued..
