To the ‘legal alien in Moscow’..

Flickr Add comments

Hi, Eric,

No doubt, your brother can instantly recognize these marks on the Moscow’s urban landscape.

Arbat, the street and the district The Cathedral of Christ the Redeemer

I tell you, I was savoring every moment of our chat yesterday at the Timmy’s, and I’m looking forward to having another, even more exciting chat with your brother who lives now in Moscow.

So, these pictures were taken in March of 2004, just days before we would set off for a great journey to Canada.

Canadian Embassy in Moscow My daughter, she holds our pasports with the entry visas to Canada.

And I’m going ask him, just for kicks:), - what he was doing on 11 March, 2004?  Was he planning and getting himself prepared for the trip in the opposite direction around that time? :) As for us, on that day we’d got our entry visas for Canada.

I hope we’ll ’see’ each other here, on this web-blog of mine purposely set up for this kind of things that I categorize generally as the ‘cultural clash’, and I’m sure we’ll have a great talk.

I appreciate a lot your attention to this project, and we’ll keep in touch,

Cheers,

Sergey

    Hi…I mean Preevyet!
Your photos are all familiar to me of course and its equally interesting that you are now living in Canada. Have we simply exchanged places?
I live on Smolenskaya Nabrejnaya, with my windows facing the river(directly across the street) and a small balcony that looks onto the British Embassy. Its a beautiul view.
Moscow has probably chnaged alot since you’ve left. Have you been back for visits? Ask my brother to show you the photos of my Polkova flight to St. Pete!! Very amusing.

By the way, on March 11th, I think I was sitting in my room in Bangkok and thinking about how strange it will be moving to Russia. Or, I was busy teaching myself to read Russian!
I did ok…can read perfectly and speak very poorly but I am working it.

Its funny that I walk past the Canadian embassy many times. Its actually very close to my apartment, and often I walk past it and wonder about the lives that will change when my Russian friends move to Canada.

Can i post pictures on here for you? If so, how?

    Robert,
    Zdravstvui!

    Ho do you do,

    What an amazing contact!
Me and Eric have known each other for awhile - never flown together, though, - and on that day when we were finally supposed to do this, well, - they have changed plans at the very last moment, and we were released. So, having the rest of the day entirely for us, we went to ‘TH coffee joint’, and had a famous ‘Tim Hortons pairing’ :)

That’s where and when Eric told me about yourself, and your current whereabouts.

So, it is very nice to meet you!
    It’s a fantastic ‘cultural exchange’.

Pictures… Hmm.. I should look into the blog’s features, find out how to arrange this. Anyway, you can send pictures to my e-mail address, as for now, - and we’ll start a topic featured with your pics. It’s going to be a fun - a virtual travel across Moscow , with our comments.

I’ll bet you’ve been around ‘Patriarchi Prudi’ - ‘Patriarch Ponds’, have you?

It my daughter’s favorite spot. She would love to see some imagery from there.

OK, Robert, I’ll be with you in no time, with more chat,

    ‘Bud’ Zdorov!’

    From Canada, with love, :)

    Привет!

    Как дела?

    У меня в порядке-спасибо зарядке.

I am sitting in my nice Moscow apartment and trying to decide what I will do for this beautiful Saturday afternoon. The sun is shining and as usual there is a slight breeze. I suppose I will find a nice outdoor cafe and just watch people for a while.
I love Patriarchy Prudy of course. Who could not like it? It isnt so far from me really, just a short walk along Sedova maybe 10 minutes and I am there. I live on Smolenskaya Nabrejnaya so my view is of the Moscow River from all my windows. I will send a pic for you.
Do you still have many relatives here in Moscow? Let me know if there is anything that I can do for you here in Moscow.
So I will send some images to your websiet and you can feel free to add them to this site if you wish. Take care

    Robert

    Robert,

Your ’scenery set up’ sounds sure realistic. I’m quite able to visualize all the stuff.

Yeah, there’s quite a few very nice spots in Moscow in the summer, and especially in that area of the city where you live.

No we don’t have relatives in Moscow anymore, however, many friends still live there. Moscow is not my ‘native town’, we lived only for less than three years there before we moved to Canada. I would love to come over and visit, see some friends, but we are not ‘homesick’, - ’so far’, perhaps :)

I was asking you if you travel across Russia on your business, or for pleasure. If so, I’ll bet you wouldn’t mind to go and see one of the nicest part of the country - Krasnodarski Krai, Caucasian Mountains, Black Sea.

I’m sort of looking for a ‘volunteer from a Western country’ for a ‘test-visit’ to a friend of mine :)

    I’ll post your pictures, sure.
As for ‘Pulkovo Airlines’ - among my Flickr contacts there’s a young lady, and she works as an FA for this airline. Check out her photo-stream, seems she’s a pretty good eye in photography.

Oh, Eric visited us a couple days ago :) See us sitting by the table, sipping ‘Russian made Mojitos‘:)

Nice to talk to you, Robert,
Tell us a couple of words about what do you do in Moscow.

    See you,

    Clash
