Flute Attendant

Editorial, From the Road Add comments

Shere has just finished performing a short piece of classic on her flute at 40.000 feet. We should have a good chat with her, - and we will - she is a very interesting person to talk to. She plays flute for the guests on our flights.

Here she is, performing..

As a ‘deadheading’ crew we flew in the back on the leg from Saskatoon to Winnipeg, and I had an opportunity to take this short video of her performance. There’s one more clip on my Mac, but it is just a bit over the 100 MB You-Tub limit on the uploads, so, I’m going to compress that one on my home PC, and post it later.

And one more interesting thing, now about Shere’s family: her father was one one the famous WW II heroes, - the ‘Dambuster’ pilot.

Oh, we certainly have to talk about this too.

That would be something to talk about, for sure.

I remember seeing the movie “Dam Busters” as a young boy and was quite intrigued by flying, the technology and techniques used.

It comes up occasionally on the old movie channel and is still a great story.

    OldDog,

We’ll have Shere here, and I hope she tells us about her father, and a couple of words about her activity she’s now involved in. She keeps in touch with all Dambuster crews who still alive, - isn’t that incredible?

I’ll post more on this soon,

P.S. recently I’ve been to the Nanton Air Museum, and as I told Shere this, she instantly went: “Did you see anything about my father?” His name is John Fraser, and he was a gunner, not a pilot, as I put it above, in this post.

I’ll check my photos from Nanton.

    It’s Shere………Hi!!

Thanks for your write up…..my father was the bombaimer on Lancaster AJ-M, Hopgood’s aircraft, 2nd after Guy Gibson to attack the Mohne Dam. My full name is Shere Fraser Lowe:)

    Cheers, Shere

    Shere,

Glad you’ve found a minute to look in. Thank you for visiting this place. And thank you also for correcting me with the name of the position your father had on the aircraft.

I’ll certainly study all the related stuff from the available sources.

However, I’ll take an opportunity to ask you to keep posting here, and share with us the stories pertinent to your activity in the Canadian No. 617 Squadron Association.

As for ‘Sheer Love’ that I used for captioning the following post, it’s not a ‘case of misspelling :)

And check out the You-tube again:

A new comment has just appeared under the clip, - seems to me, from a lady who plays the flute herself, and certainly, doesn’t mind to enjoy a piece of performance SOME of our FAs do on board:)

Again, I’m delighted you are here,

I’m sure soon people will be asking our Call Center to book them on ‘flight being served by Flute Attendants’ :)

    Cheers,

    Hi Clashmaker:)

I have the greatest fun playing my flute onboard “a pressurized tin can hurdling through the sky at 41,000ft”:) Not the best acoustics, but the best captive audience in the world:)Only at WestJet can you have this much fun! The surprise and the smiles makes it so rewarding and no one ever expects an f/a to play the flute…..makes those years of musical training so worthwhile:):)

I have quite a rich history in aviation and my mother and father were both pilots and now my son is a pilot. I began my career in aviation at Wardair…..oh, that does date me:)

I would really enjoy talking about my involvement with RAF 617 Squadron Dambusters. I am the North American Representative for the Aircrew Association. I encourage people to visit Nanton Lancaster Museum and visit their website. It’s great to google search the Dambusters, you’ll find a great deal of information online. It is a real privilege and honour to represent the squadron overseas.

    Cheers,

    Shere

    hi, Shere,

Nice to hear from you again.
I’m going to continue following this ‘road of the great past’.

And I’ll post another video (as you maybe remember, I shot two ‘pieces of flute music performed by you), and you liked that one very much - there was your beloved audience applauding in it.

    So, keep in touch,

We’ll see you soon here again :))

Shere is a pleasure and delight to fly with and I hope to have the pleasure again. She does us (WestJet) proud. As for her Father and those like him, ‘heroic’ comes to mind.

That’s true: it is very simple, - and true.
