Traveling in the Time Machine.

A sample of the Time Machine. Offered by Hollywood. Get bored with ‘the decrepit Soviet-era junk’ I’ve been feeding up to the blog so far?

OK, take the seats in our Time Machine, buckle yourself up, and - off we go. To the Hollywood!

Hey, how many per cent of the entire world population have ever heard the name of the Hollywood? - You bet, a lot.

Inner court on the premises of the Aktyubinsk High Civil Aviation College. Aktyubinsk (Aqtobe), Kazakhstan. 1979 Now, speaking of the past as distant as this September’s afternoon in the 1979, it wouldn’t be far off the truth if I tell you even then I already had a ‘vague knowledge’ about Hollywood. And so did my chums, for sure.

Soviet propaganda dubbed the place the ‘Fabric of the Daydreams”, - and this sarcastic euphemism stuck with with the name very tight. By the way, ‘propaganda zealots’ often used Hollywood as a ‘handy subject’ to polish their ‘critique skills’.

It is so incredible to see this name in real.

And it was so cool at last to see this spot in reality!

It happened in 2005 when we traveled across the US. I went on my first vacation in WestJet, and I remember how excited we all became once we realized we could do it, and a cost seemed quite affordable (which turned to be in fact the ‘low-cost’, - taken into account the fact that we used a benefit of relatively cheap travel available through the inter-line agreements). Yeah, the cost of the affair and the only was now the thing that might put travel plans at halt - there wasn’t a need any more to bother yourself with inventing ways ‘how to hop over the ‘Iron Curtain’, or ‘cross the Atlantic on the steam boat’, - whatever, - Hollywood was just in two hours of flying.

Los Angeles. Hollywood! Holly!

I remember my son was under impression left by the ‘Mulholand Drive’ movie, and he watched this movie on the Russian TV shortly before we went to Canada. He could hardly believe that now we would be able to reach it as easy as ‘one-two-three’: just jump into the car, and drive over to the place. Which we did one night.

Sightseeing spot on the Mulholland DriveMulholland Drive appeared to be real.

Being in Hollywood, watching all these ‘fetishes of mass culture’ in real brought about a strong ‘fit of vanity’:
Kodak Theater - the Oscar Ceremonies Palace.

On the Red Carpet Kodak Cinema Theater had seen new faces

I sat at the base of this ‘road of fame’, and felt very proud as I looked back at the way I have gone through:

‘Mir’ cinema in the Przhevalsky Street. Semipalatinsk, Kazakhstan

from this shabby looking movie theater named ‘Mir’, ruins of which are still traceable on the Google satellite image of Semipalatinsk, Kazakhstan, and to this focal point of the world cinematographic industry. From a ‘young moviegoer with a running nose’ - to the ‘recognized hitchhiker through the times and spaces’.

Visiting the Universal Studio was an eventful adventure:

A Date with Marilyn

I suddenly bumped into Marilyn! Of course, she instantly recognized me, and ‘played it really hot’!

I even felt a need to go somewhere to cool off, and headed to the WaterWorld.

The Water World Show in the Universal Studio

But there was other hot stuff going on there too.

So, having all this said, I’m going to make a point: I think I have figured out what the ‘Time Machine Principle’ is.

A fantastic fairy tale story. Really enjoy reading your personal accounts.

Yes, everyone needs to visit there at least once. We took our kids to Disneyland many years ago. Still remember it.

“A fantastic fairy tale story” - isn’t it a play screen scenario? :)

There’s a rock group in Russia called “Uma2rman”. I like their music and songs very much. Among others there’s a ’series’ with the same theme of a plain guy, a type of a Russian ‘countryside bumpkin’ who’s got a fancy he’s in friendship with Uma Thurman herself, and always holds a sort of ‘conversation’ with her.

When we were in Hollywood, in the Universal Studio I jokingly referred myself to that guy.

I’m going to put on a sort of video-clip on that song.

    Thanks, again,

    Talk to you,

    C
